Susan Cartier-Liebel is talking about BigLaw this week over on her blog, Build a Solo Practice, LLC. She posts about young female lawyers who are deciding that the lifestyle of the female partners in big firms just isn't for them in, "Gen Y Women Saying 'No Thank You' to Big Law".
Cartier-Liebel's post points out that law firms will have to change their tactics if they want to attract talented young female attorneys and keep them from going solo or joining small firms. She says, "Throwing money at them is no longer the answer. No amount of money can make up for lost years, lost opportunities at having a family or lost time spent with the family we have."
This brings to mind my post from last week, "Associates Would Give Up Higher Salaries for Lower Billable Hour Requirements." It seems that young lawyers don't see the value in giving up freedom, family, and other personal pursuits for a fatter paycheck. To these lawyers, there are more important things in the world than money.
