Last week, I attended the ABA Law Practice Management Section's Fall Meeting in Tucson, Arizona. The image is a sign posted on the sliding glass door of many of the rooms at the resort where the conference was held (I realize that the photo is a bit out of focus - it was the best I could do).
As you can imagine, those signs led to some interesting conversations. Although I don't believe there were any spider, scorpion or snake sightings, we hear that there was a bobcat sighting outside one of the Section Council member's rooms, but there's no photo to prove it, so we can't be sure...
Although this was primarily a business meeting (or series of meetings) and a great deal was accomplished, the greatest benefit for me (as usual) was the opportunity to begin or strengthen relationships.
This is my 'thank you' post to old friends and new for making the conference worthwhile for me.
You may have noticed some back and forth on Ed Poll's Law Biz Blog and here, originating from one dinner conversation - and there was ongoing discussion of thee issues 'in person' at the conference as well. I'm always amazed at the people I meet who tell me they read my blog, so I know I'm reaching people even if they don't comment or email me directly. It's fun to extend those 'conversations' to the real world.
In addition to Ed, I was happy to re-connect with other LPM section members I'd met before - some on-line and some through attendance at section meetings and events, including Reid Trautz, Dennis Kennedy, Jim Calloway, Tom Mighell and Aviva Cuyler. And I feel privileged to have made some new LPM friends, including Erik Mazzone, Rodney Dowell, and Steve Matthews, among others.
This is truly an impressive group, and one wonders at times whether these people sleep - they're successful lawyers and business people, but they're also writing, speaking, traveling and participating in all kinds of new technologies, all the while volunteering their time to make the LPM section - and the life of lawyers in general - better.
If you haven't taken a look at what the LPM Section has to offer, now is the time. Even if you're not a member of the ABA, check out the LPM site and all of the resources available there. Between the benefits of membership and the high quality of the lawyers and others who volunteer their time to the section, you may just want to consider joining. You may even get the pleasure of seeing the sun set in an Arizona desert like this:
Great that someone captured the scorpion & snakes sign. :)
Great getting to know you too Allison, please keep in touch.
