Allison, thanks for attending the social media presentation and taking the time to live-tweet and blog about it. You did so much to help publicize the conference by live-tweeting many CLE sessions that the GP|Solo Division should give you a free pass for next year's conference (assuming that you're not comped as a speaker - and, as I said on Twitter, your session with Kevin Chern was one of the best CLEs I've ever attended).

In my view, there are two primary reasons that so few of the people attending the conference were engaging in social media on some platforms (primarily Twitter and Facebook) during the conference. First, the conference chairs themselves (who are volunteers) don't use Twitter as actively as the organizers/chairs of other, more technically-inclined conferences (such TechShow). Therefore, there wasn't much pre-conference buzz on Twitter about the conference. Second, the conference did not offer its own wifi - anyone who wanted to live-tweet the conference had to either pay for the hotel's wifi or have their own (via e.g., an aircard).

I said "some" platforms because there was a fair amount of discussion about the conference on Solosez, as well as some on the Solomarketing e-mail lists. I think it's easy to forget that e-mail lists are social media, too.

Finally, some social media engagement was going on behind the scenes. For example, I tweeted about the conference a number of times, and also uploaded some conference photos to Facebook, from the comfort of my hotel room.
