Thanks, Lisa. I agree - as you can see from my follow up posts, there are a lot of ways this could (and should) have been avoided.

The original sender could have avoided all of this by using an e-mail list management service such as Aweber or MailChimp. These services send out e-mails with an "unsubscribe" link at the bottom.

Alternatively, the original sender could have either: (1) sent out the message using the "bcc" field; or (2) done an e-mail merge, so that each message was addressed only to one person. With option (2), each e-mail could have been personalized (e.g., "Dear Joe:")
