Great stuff Allison. Questions are the key. Obviously, you have to know first know what questions to ask. I usually direct lawyers to what Google has to say on SEO: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35291

In addition to the great questions you suggest, ask about previous projects the SEO has worked on. Get examples. Ask whether they have experience working with law firms specifically.
