It is so true. I did a local search for optical store. Half the stores shown on Google Places do not have a website. Their Google Places pages are very basic. The local business owners need to be educated.

Update your site before you worry about visability- an old out of date site will not draw clients.

""My clients don’t find me by doing an internet search.” Duh! That’s because you’re practically invisible on the internet!"

Exactly! Now is the time for lawyers to turn to online marketing, particularly through social media, and increase the word-of-mouth discussions offline by using online means.

Great blogging.

Best wishes
Gavin

"Unfortunately, it seems that the thinking among lawyers hasn’t changed much over the past 5 years."

I couldn't agree more. And I'll take it a step further and say that the legal profession as a whole hasn't changed it's thinking much in the past 50 years. For better or worse, the days when Lawyers didn't advertise is over. Time to embrace it.
