I do think ignorance is not an excuse. Lawyers are known to be always updated with the latest news or rulings and saying that they are not familiar with a particular subject isn't acceptable. Here in New Zealand, I have not yet heard of such case. Firms such as Layburn Hodgins who maintain a site (http://www.layburn.co.nz/) have not been caught for violating such kind of rule.
