Helping lawyers create more productive, profitable and enjoyable law practices

Is it time to ‘shut up and get things done?’

June 5, 2009

A friend sent me the following Winston Churchill quote this morning:

“Continuous effort — not strength or intelligence —  is the key to unlocking our potential.” — Winston Churchill

Her message to me was, “You can see the English attitude of shutting up and getting things done!”

Is it time for you to shut up and get things done?

  • Do you have lists of goals that you’ve said you want to accomplish in your practice?

  • Have you got something on your list that you’ve been ‘meaning to get to?’

  • Is there a missing system in your office for repetitive tasks like client intake, potential client follow up or accounts receivable that would make you more productive if you could just get the system in place?

  • Are you envious of other lawyers who seem to be ‘ahead’ of you with their systems or technology?

  • Are there aspects of your practice that just aren’t working, but you haven’t addressed them?

  • Do you have an unproductive or difficult employee that needs to be let go?

  • Are you drowning in work and handling tasks that could be delegated or outsourced so that you could focus on higher value work?

  • Do you find yourself complaining about your lack of productivity, difficulty retaining or bringing in clients, or other aspects of your practice that you can control?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, it may be time to get moving and get something done. Just take the first step — it’s usually the most difficult one to take. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to keep going!
